Kaching Subscriptions allow you to sell products on a recurring basis and offer flexible purchasing options to your customers.

In this article, we’ll explain the two main types of subscription models available -Prepaid and Pay-Per-Delivery - and help you understand how each one works.

1. Subscription Types

Pay-Per-Delivery

Also known as “Subscribe and Save”, this model charges customers for each individual delivery. A new order is generated at regular intervals (e.g. daily, weekly, monthly), and the customer is billed accordingly.

Key features:

  • Customers are charged automatically at each billing cycle.

  • Orders are created one at a time as each cycle arrives

  • Discounts can be applied per delivery (e.g. 10% off each order)

Prepaid Subscriptions

With Prepaid subscriptions, the customer pays upfront for multiple future deliveries. The store then ships products on a set schedule until the full order has been fulfilled.

Key features:

  • One payment covers multiple upcoming deliveries.

  • Great for offering bundle deals or gifting options

  • Helps improve cash flow with upfront payments

2. Offering Subscription Plans to Your Customers

You can offer multiple subscription plans per product or collection. Customize the:

  • Frequency (e.g., every week, every 2 months)

  • Discount types (percentage, fixed amount)

  • Plan durations (ongoing or limited)

Customers can choose the plan that best suits their needs right on the product page.

3. What You Can Do with the Kaching Subscriptions

Using the Kaching Subscriptions app, you can:

  • Create auto-billed subscriptions that renew daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly

  • Allow customers to skip, pause, resume, or cancel their plans

  • Apply various discount types: fixed amount, percentage

  • Apply smart discounts: e.g. 10% off for the first two orders only

  • Display a customizable subscription widget on your online store

  • Show subscription details on product, cart, and thank-you pages

  • Send automatic email updates about subscription activity

  • Track and analyze active, paused, and canceled subscriptions

4. Customer Experience

Customers can manage their subscriptions directly from their customer account, where they can:

  • View both one-time and recurring purchases

  • Skip, resume, or cancel deliveries

  • Update payment methods or shipping addresses

All payment information is securely stored by Shopify — your store never has access to full credit card details.

5. Billing & Payment Considerations

Supported payment gateways:

  • Shopify Payments

  • PayPal Express

  • Authorize.net

  • Adyen

  • Stripe

Billing Time:

  • Charges occur the day after the subscription is due, at 10:00 AM (store’s local time)

6. Limitations & Compatibility Notes

Subscription purchases are only supported on:

  • Online store

  • Shop app

  • Custom storefronts

Not supported on:

  • Shopify POS

  • Draft orders

  • Local payment methods (e.g., Klarna, mollie iDEAL, Sofort)

The Order Edits API does not support subscription items.

You can use local delivery and pickup options for subscription orders
